How to care for your bunny
Giving your bunny appropriate housing and diet, is very important. Here are some basics!
• Bunnies do best in a playpen set up, where they can be taught to use a litter box, and happily have space to play and stretch out. Pet store cages are not ideal, if using one make sure it is XL sizing and allow time out of the cage daily for your bunny to exercise.
• Make sure hay is available to your bunny at all times, hay should be 80% of their diet! Pellets can be free fed, or 1/4 cup a day depending how much hay your bunny eats. Greens can be given as treats but make sure not to over do it as if your bunny is not use to them, they will get the runs (diarrhea) which can be quickly fatal.
•Toys are very important to keep your bunny busy, I very much recommend all Oxbow products, as well as small pet select brand. Toys should be available to your bunny at all times, homemade toys are also great!
•Respect that rabbits are PREY animals. This means gaining their trust can be hard. They often do not like to be held and feel safer on the ground. To better bond with your bunny sit down at his/her level, and let them come to you, reward with treat!
